Introduction to Ancient Greece
Ancient Greece is one of the oldest civilizations in the world, but unlike most civilizations it is divided into separate strictly independent spots of land that are smaller than a state but bigger than a city (calling them a city or a state is acceptable). All the cities-states are untied under one government (like the modern day U.S.A), but they all have their separate beliefs of things such as education, daily life, and culture. Take Sparta for example, they believed in strong military and women as lower class (Athens how ever allowed women an education and gave boys the decision to either an education or to be trained as solders), while young boys would be trained in education and warfare to become solders, while girls would stay at home and tend to the house. They also believed that not a single civilian should starve, poor or wealthy, so they had a large banquet for all civilians in the morning and afternoon of each day, this is something most other cities-states would never even think of.
How does a civilization stand the test of time?
Civilizations stand the test of time by keeping order in their civilization so the people do not revolt. Civilizations must also have a government that appeals to the people, along with reliable food sources, and technology that is up to date, Greece stood the test of time because of its seas that constantly supplied fish and defense. Not only did Greece have defense that was supplied by it's mountains and surrounding seas, their armies we're so great in numbers and well strategised, that it was impervious to it's enemies. A civilization must also have enough resources to support it's growing cities, this is something Greece easily had under control because of how many mines it had and the massive amount of forests. Above all a civilization needs to grow rapidly and be able to crush their rivals in wars or technologically, Greece had excellent philosophers who developed all of their technology within a month, most other civilizations took years to accomplish the same goal.
